Responsibilities

  1. Design a treatment plan by means of computer and/or manual computation that will deliver a prescribed radiation dose and field placement technique in accordance with the Radiation Oncologists’ prescription to a defined tumor volume.
  2. Consider dose-limiting structures in the design of treatment plans and document dose in accordance with the Radiation Oncologists’ prescription.
  3. Coordinate treatment simulations and tumor localization on dedicated devices, including CT, MRI and PET when indicated, for radiation oncology treatment planning.
  4. Perform calculations for the accurate delivery of the Radiation Oncologists’ prescribed dose, document all pertinent information in the patient record, and verify the mathematical accuracy of all calculations using a system established by the Medical Physicist.
  5. Communicate to the therapist staff in the implementation of the treatment plan including: the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment variables.
  6. Assist with patient care during a port CT procedure.
  7. Participates as a resource for simulation and initial treatment set-up as requested.
  8. Assist in intracavitary and interstitial brachytherapy procedures and the subsequent manual and/or computer calculation of the dose distributions of these treatments.
  9. Provide physics and technical support to the Medical Physicist, in radiation protection.
  10. Participates in the Radiation Oncology quality assurance committee and weekly chart rounds.
  11. Completes accurate dosimetry billing procedures on a daily basis.
  12. Participates in continuing education in the area of current treatment techniques, and advances in medical dosimetry.
  13. Demonstrated competency in CPR.
  14. Assist physicist with maintenance of calibration records for physics equipment such as survey meter and well chambers.
  15. Maintain Dosimetry reference manual.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

  4. Two years of experience as a Dosimetrist preferred.
  5. Registration by AART as a Radiotherapy Therapist preferred.
  6. The ability to problem solve and resolve clinical or machine related issues, as well as perform mathematical calculations and strong understanding of the principles of physics is required.
  7. Proficiency in the use of computers and the ability to read diagnostic images for radiation dosimetry is required.
  8. Knowledge of radiation safety and brachytherapy source inventory required.
  9. Requires strong interpersonal skills necessary to work with physicians, technical staff and ancillary department personnel.
