The Senior Director, Finance and Contracting is responsible for providing comprehensive financial management for the Adirondacks (ADKS) Accountable Care Organization (ACO). ADK ACO is a provider owned and governed ACO with the University of Vermont Health Network Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital and Hudson Headwaters Health Network, and a seven (7) county network of participating providers. This highly visible and important role includes significant participation in setting ADK’s financial and related strategy and represents key leadership and capability to support network-wide financial performance under payment reform. Payment reform anticipates that the ADK ACO will participate in risk contracts to deliver results against population cost targets and quality measures for covered populations.
In this capacity, the Senior Director will work closely with a wide variety of stakeholders and peers spanning the University of Vermont Health Network CVPH and HHHN and its ACO partners/networks. The Senior Director will oversee financial management functions including planning, budgeting, and analysis and reporting for the ACO. Planning and budgeting responsibility include developing and maintaining deep understanding of the qualitative and quantitative elements of resourcing the ACO and of ACO operations and their costs. Responsibilities related to analysis include design and execution of analytic models, assessments and forecasts to support and implement ACO strategies and business decisions. Reporting responsibilities include ensuring that financial information is reported accurately, timely and in a format that is useful to ADK ACO management, and the Board of Managers. Other financial management functions include fulfilling ADK’s financial compliance, and other financially related operational needs.
The Senior Director must be proactive in identifying issues and opportunities to enhance reporting capabilities and is responsible for both detailed and high-level problem solving. The Senior Director and supervised staff will generate customized analysis and research deliverables that are used for key decision making with material financial and clinical implications. Customers will include the CEO, COO and CMO of ADK ACO. The incumbent will also participate in various leadership groups and meetings, making formal presentations and providing suggested directions for population analysis and payment models. He or she also serves as a project leader and a content expert that is responsible for prioritizing and delegating work, collaborating on quality standards and management of departmental operations.
Directly reports to the CEO ADK ACO. Indirectly reports to the Associate Vice President and CMO of ADK ACO. Also maintains executive contact with the CFO of Finance at the University of Vermont Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital and the CFO of HHHN.
Freedom to Act/Accountably:
The Senior Director Finance will have significant day-to-day authority and accountability for ADK ACO’s decisions which may impact ADK’s expenses and processes.
Senior Director must operate within parameters and direction set by the member/owners, the Operating Agreement and in compliance with contracted ACO programs/payers and participant contracts. The Senior Director oversees the budget for ADK ACO under the direction of the ADK CEO.
The Senior Director will work with a broad range of individuals within ADK ACO, the University of Vermont Health Network and HHHN and will attend meetings of and present information to the ACO Board of Managers and Board Finance Committee. The Senior Director has a significant level of senior stakeholder relations, including ACO network financial leaders, clinicians across the network, hospital CEOs/CFOs/CMOs, payer contract representatives, provider member leaders and NYS governmental officials. Additionally, the Senior Director will work closely with a variety of external constituents including auditors.
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in a business-related subject area required. CPA and/or Master’s Degree in related discipline preferred.
