Overview

The Clinical Operations Supervisor is responsible for working collaboratively with the Director and other discipline directors, as applicable, to plan for, supervise and evaluate all program operations and patient care delivery in the clinical area. The individual displays or is developing competence in the 5 core health competencies of interdisciplinary teamwork, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, patient-focused care, and informatics. Responsibilities include organizational planning, compliance with regulatory standards, fiscal management, ensure units are staffed appropriately a all times, recruit staff as needed, review and post a 4 week schedule monthly, setting and maintaining standards of nursing care and practice, coordinating services, providing for the professional growth of staff, and clinical coaching on the unit and the bedside with all staff. He/She shares joint responsibility with Director for all outcomes of unit to include but not limited to patient satisfaction, employee engagement and fiscal responsibility. Clinical Operations Supervisors are expected to work holidays and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

Works within interdisciplinary team:

  • Provides support/education to staff while maintaining a positive, safe working environment.
  • Collaboratively interact with other management teams as well as administration to provide patient focused care.

Values communication and relationship building:

  • Responsible for coaching staff and providing support and expectations.
  • Provides service recovery to patient and family.
  • Collaborates with the Director and Clinical Education Managers to provide education to staff in form of focus groups.
  • Provides visual aids for patient and staff education while also providing education and support to student nurses.
  • Gives and receives feedback including recognition and coaching for continuous improvement.

Utilizes informatics/business skills:

  • Utilizes hospital informatics by using smart-square scheduling, Kronos Workforce, MAK, Soarian, Healthstream, Safe System, Pyxis, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office, Sigmacare to maintain daily operations and maintain fiscal responsibility.

Applies leadership and professional practice skills:

  • Obtains/maintains advanced degree & certification as indicated per job description and encourage staff to do the same.
  • Participate in leadership follow-up as well as hospital strategic planning.
  • Lead the way with staff by modeling the way with hospital wide initiatives.
  • Provide staff evaluations and ensure the standards of practice are being followed.
  • Supports and demonstrates organizational cultural beliefs and key results.

Applies quality and patient-focused care:

  • Promotes hospital wide initiatives by providing & monitoring that best practice is being utilized through service excellence and risk management.
  • Responsible for maintaining competency for their specific unit with the expectation to work as team leader/staff nurse when applicable.
  • Participates in daily interdisciplinary round or hand off of care and staff huddles.

Qualifications

  1. BSN or completion of BSN by Spring 2018 required.
  2. MSN preferred.
  3. NY State Registered Professional Nurse license required.
  4. Certification in specialty preferred or active involvement with completion within twelve (12) months.
  5. Critical Care: PCCN or CCRN certification preferred.
  6. Demonstrates leadership with good oral and written communication skills required.
  7. Critical Care: Current ACLS, critical care course within 2 months required.
  8. Requires a minimum of two (2) years relevant clinical experience as determined by Associate Vice President or Vice President.
  9. Specific experience per unit criteria preferred.
  10. Experience with Microsoft Office, quality/risk management system, electronic medical record system, bed management system as applicable, transport/resource management system as applicable, learning management system, staffing/scheduling system, automated medication dispensing system as applicable, MSDS, automated communication system and other role specific technology.

As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
