  • Overview

    Responsible for charging/coding, billing and reimbursement for outpatient radiation and medical oncology services in general. Work with the departments and Charge Master Coordinator to design the charge capture interface and charge description master techniques and associated coding and billing for radiation and medical oncology services.

    Responsibilities

    1. Responsible for charging/coding, billing and reimbursement for Oncology services in general.
    2. Work with the departments and Charge Master Coordinator to design the charge capture interface and charge description master techniques and associated coding and billing for Oncology services.
    3. Assist the Charge Master Coordinator with pricing strategies for expensive catheters and stents used for Oncology out-patient services.
    4. Stay current on the complex rules for billing, coding, compliance, and reimbursement in the Oncology area.
    5. Proficiency charging/coding various procedures and applying appropriate diagnoses codes, modifiers and CPTS’s for both Professional and Technical Component Coding/Billing.
    6. Maintain current working knowledge of related APCs, bundling under APCs, and various payment processes.
    7. Provide accurate answers to Physicians, Management and Administration regarding coding and or billing questions. Provide education and feedback to providers and service line management staff.
    8. Ensure all services documented in the procedure report are charged/coded with appropriate CPT codes and Modifiers for both Professional and Technical components in a timely manner. When services/diagnoses are not documented appropriately, seek to attain proper documentation. Achieve and maintain a high level of productivity and accuracy.
    9. Review medical documentation. Review and asses claim Accuracy. Ensure services are billed accurately in compliance with payer rules and DHHS regulations.

    Qualifications

    1. Minimum of seven (7) years oncology charging/coding experience required.
    2. Ten (10) years or more coding experience preferred.
    3. Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.
    4. Certified Hematology/Oncology Coder (CHONC) required.                                   

    As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of patients for which care is being provided.
