  • Overview

    The Network Specialist Level III employee is responsible for advanced level troubleshooting and problem analysis, design, support, monitoring and documenting of the organizations computer network. This network includes LAN’s, WAN’s, WLAN’s, VLAN’s, Internet, Intranet, Personal Computers, Backup Systems, Security Systems, E-mail Systems, Operating Systems and Software Applications. This individual will develop and follow best practices and standards surrounding the performance, availability, automation, security and administration of the corporate network. High quality customer service will be provided to all users of the corporate network.   

    Special Criteria Details

    On Call as scheduled


    1. Unpacks, verifies contents of new personal computers, workstations and LAN peripherals.
    2. Configures and sets up computers as client or server nodes based upon CVPH defined model on various organization LANS.
    3. Arranges with Sr. LAN Administrator for naming, address and security levels as is appropriate for the particular installation.
    4. Loads and initializes software (operating system, networking software, application software, etc.).
    5. Tests PCs for network operation including access to printers, E-mail, business applications.
    6. Tests, prototypes and installs new and upgraded operating systems, application software and hardware ensuring adequate pre-planning and coordination so as to minimize interruption to the end user community.
    7. Educates customers on proper operational procedures for personal computers, peripherals and local area networks.  Provides customer training when appropriate.
    8. Assists in evaluating, recommending and selecting equipment, services and network components to serve CVPH and satellite facilities.
    9. Interacts with vendor personnel regarding problem resolution and/or equipment purchase and requistion.
    10. Recommends retirement of obsolete or non-cost effective equipment as appropriate.
    11. Provides written and graphical input for network documentation.  Maintains network documentation and integrity with computerized database.
    12. As a project team member, assists in defining hardware requirements, preparing purchase requisitions, installing and testing hardware.
    13. Assists in the review of personal computer, peripheral and local area network purchases for cost effectiveness, performance and best alternative.
    14. Other duties as assigned.


    1. Bachelor's Degree IT related field preferred and minimum six years progressively responsible work experience in the operations and maintenance of networks and their associated hardware and software OR minimum ten years progressively responsible work experience in the operations and maintenance of networks and their associated hardware and software required.  OR Three years at CVPH Medical Center in the Network Specialist Level II position, satisfactory or above performance evaluations for the last three yearly evaluations, demonstrated ability to have built/implemented several file servers, served as project leader for successful install/upgrade of several major software/hardware projects and completion of, at minimum, one of the following mutually agreed upon courses or certifications: Microsoft, Novell, Cisco (in addition to Level II certification requirements).
    2. Technical understanding of Ethernet topology required.
    3. Must possess knowledge of CVPH applications and operating systems to include Novell and Microsoft.
    4. Must possess demonstrable knowledge of peripheral set-ups including servers, PCs and printers.
    5. Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of quality work with a dedication to customer service.
    6. Highly motivated self-starter.
    7. Must be able to read, write, comprehend, and translate technical instruction and have the ability to be extremely detail oriented.
    8. Multi-tasking work prioritization skills required.
    9. Demonstrated ability to function in a high-pressure environment
