Sonographer Level I

Performs diagnostic ultrasounds on patients as ordered by a licensed provider, in an ethical and professional manner. Assists in all aspects of Radiology Ultrasound.

On-call as scheduled. • Sign-on bonus available! Candidates who are new to CVPH and the UVM Health Network are eligible for up to $15,000 sign on bonus with a commitment to join us in a full time capacity for at least two years. Payments are made in three equal installments during the first year of employment, and amounts are pre-tax/will have taxes with-held.

1. Verifies patient identity using two methods, before performing exam.
2. Reads charts, requisitions, and physicians orders to ascertain the existence of valid requests for diagnostic ultrasound procedures.
3. Responsible for documenting patient history and assessment as required to perform the exam ordered.
4. Performs exam according to department standards, documenting required organ assessments and measurements on worksheet.
5. Assist physicians and Radiologists during those ultrasound procedures requiring a physician’s presence.
6. Responsible for performing follow up calls on select biopsy patients and documenting any complications / complaints.
7. Performs PACS QA (image management) according to established practice.
8. Operates department ultrasound units and ABI unit according to procedure.
9. Handles / cleans ultrasound probes properly, following department procedures.
10. Practices Infection Control procedures according to CVPH guidelines.
11. Other duties as assigned.

1. Must be registered by RDMS (Ab, OB or RVT) or pass the RDMS Registry within one year of meeting the eligibility requirements. Eligibility requirements will be reviewed by employee and manager / supervisor.  In the event that an employee has unsuccessfully attempted to become registered within the required timeframe, the employee is granted a six month extension to become registered / credentialed. 
2. Requires sufficient sensitivity and interpersonal skills in dealing with apprehensive patients and family in a professional and compassionate manner.
3. Requires positive and effective communicating skills for interaction with physicians and staff in any situation.
4. Requires the ability to think and act quickly in order to deliver efficient quality care in a variety of stressful situations.
5. Must maintain a working knowledge of all ultrasound equipment.
6. Must be BLS certified (or obtained within 3 months).

As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
