Overview

Plans, directs, and provides nutritional care to patients utilizing standards of care under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian. Conducts nutrition education to various customer groups. May assume the duties of Diet Technician in their absence.

Responsibilities

  1. Develops nutrition care plans for patients and residents as assigned by RD.
  2. Determines, provides and documents nutrition counseling needs as assigned by RD.
  3. Documents all assessments, follow-ups, education and recommendations per policy.
  4. Assist or covers responsibilities of diet tech as needed.
  5. Attends interdisciplinary rounds, care planning, and meetings as appropriate.
  6. Provides quality assessments, education, and documentation to all outpatient services in which they are assigned.
  7. Writes plan of care goals that can be measured.
  8. Actively participates in planning, implementation, and data collection for hospital/department Performance Improvement Plans.
  9. Participates in department inservices and projects as assigned
  10. Participates in hospital committees as assigned.
  11. Maintains CDR registration and complies with Professional Development portfolio guidelines.
  12. Participates in community nutrition education and wellness support.
  13. Completes meal rounds, and test trays on time as assigned.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum of Associates degree in Food and Nutrition granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college/university, or foreign equivalent, and completion of an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) per registration eligibility requirements.
  2. Active Dietetic Technician Registered status through the Commission of Dietetic Registration required.
  3. Minimum of 1 year acute care nutrition related experience required.

 

As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
