Overview

This position is responsible for the repair, PM, QA, installation, modification and technical advice for all Radiologic, Laboratory, MRI, Ultrasound equipment, as well as other clinical and non-clinical equipment as assigned by the Manager of Clinical Engineering. This position is also responsible for implementation and maintaining the Medical Equipment Management Plan in accordance with JCAHO requirements.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides repair, preventive maintenance and electrical safety analysis of clinical and non-clinical equipment as assigned by the Manager of Clinical Engineering. Repairs equipment to the assembly or component level as required, utilizing the appropriate test equipment.
  2. Installs clinical and non-clinical equipment, ensuring adequate pre-planning and coordination as required.
  3. Provides user in-services and cross-training for Clinical Engineering staff as required upon own initiative or as requested.
  4. Provides technical advice regarding equipment operation and usage to all medical center staff as required on own initiative or as requested.
  5. Inspects and evaluates new, leased, loaned, or rental equipment to ensure operational effectiveness and safety integrity, and for inclusion into the inventory control system. Recommends retirement of obsolete or non-cost effective equipment as appropriate.
  6. Provides advice and researches information regarding technology assessment, sources of supplies, vendors, service options, proposed new equipment, etc.as requested.
  7. Maintains adequate supplies of spare parts and general supply items; and prioritizes and coordinates the expeditious acquisition of repair parts.
  8. Conducts various measurements, surveys, and tests during special projects to determine such things as sound levels, power disturbance, etc...
  9. Designs and fabricates prototype and operational devices and upgrades and modifies equipment with the guidance and direction of the Manager of Clinical Engineering.
  10. Takes call (when deemed qualified by the Manager of Clinical Engineering), and responsibly resolves problems on various types of clinical, non-clinical and communications equipment, after normal work hours, weekends and holidays - as required to meet the needs of the medical center.
  11. Updates and supports the Medical Equipment Management Plan in accordance with JCAHO requirements.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Associate Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or related degree required.
  2. Must possess valid New York State driver's license and be insurable.
  3. 5 years experience as a BMET, or 5 years prior radiology-related experience required.
  4. Strong troubleshooting and electronic skills required.
  5. Strong organizational and communication skills required. As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
