The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for working collaboratively with the Manager to plan for, direct, supervise and evaluate all program operations and patient care delivery in assigned clinical areas. This individual shares responsibility with the Manager for staffing/scheduling, staff performance and appraisal process, incident report review/follow-up, and quality/safety improvement activities. The Assistant Manager is responsible for management/leadership of the unit/department in the absence of the Manager. They share joint responsibilities with the Manager for all outcomes of the unit to include but not limited to patient and staff satisfaction.
This individual serves as a clinical resource for unit/nursing staff. They are also responsible for monitoring/assessing clinical practice, guiding the development of standards of care and practice, and counseling/educating staff when practice deviates from standards. The Assistant Manager provides performance appraisals for staff and helps to monitor progress of developmental plans. This individual displays competence in the 5 core health care competencies of interdisciplinary team work, quality improvement, evidence based practice, patient focused care and informatives. They will have consistent off shift presence and visibility.
