Overview

Performs Diagnostic radiologic procedures in a variety of settings and locations on patients as ordered by licensed providers in an ethical and professional manner according to hospital and departmental policy and according to any applicable New York State guidelines.  Must assist in all aspects of the Radiology Department operations.

Responsibilities

  1. Performs diagnostic radiology exams according to established protocols
  2. Reviews the X-ray Request and Physicians order for the existence of pertinent clinical information and special instructions before performing the examination; obtains clinical information where necessary.
  3. Screens all females of child bearing age regarding the possibility of pregnancy and reports any questionable or positive responses to the Radiologist, Supervisor or referring physician for guidance prior to beginning the examination; documents this on the request.
  4. Is responsible for completing the patient assessment and notes/documents in all needed systems.
  5. Is responsible for completing the exam and tracking procedure appropriately with technologists name and corresponding initials in all needed systems.
  6. Prepares oral contrast media for patient use. Administers injectable contract media according to department policy and physician’s orders.
  7. Maintains proficiency in Quality evaluation of DR/CR images.
  8. Participate in image evaluations for students.
  9. Able to operate all stationary and mobile radiographic equipment in Radiology.
  10. Assures that all exams are labeled correctly and sent in correct order with correct accession numbers.
  11. Assists in the training and clinical supervision of student technologists.
  12. Assists in ancillary department functions whenever indicated; including transporting and clerical duties.
  13. Practices Infection Control according to hospital policy.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Must be licensed by the New York State Department of Health (includes temporary license).  Must be registered by ARRT Radiographer (R).
  2. Requires sufficient sensitivity and interpersonal skills in dealing with apprehensive patients and families in a professional and compassionate manner.
  3. Requires positive and effective communicating skills for interaction with physicians and staff in any situation.
  4. Requires an ability to think and act quickly in order to deliver efficient quality care in a variety of stressful situations.
  5. Must be BLS certified (or obtained within 3 months).

As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
